Some month ago we talked about Swedish People of Lava’s Scandinavia TV. At that time it was the first Google Android based TV which means you have access to a range of online services. People of Lava’s 55-inch flat panel TV is now in stores in Sweden. The price? 40,000 Swedish kronor, equivalent to 5,800 US dollars.

People of Lava exhibited their Scandinavia TV at IFA 2010 in Berlin back in September. The TV is now available in the Swedish stores, according to Wall Street Journal.

Even though Sony outpaced People of Lava and launched a Google-based flat panel TV in October, the Swedes are still optimistic. The people behind People of Lava have high hopes for their new product and expect to introduce it as a niche product in markets such as USA and England soon.

The Scandinavia TV is based on Google Android 1.5 which is a lower revision that the 2.2 on Sony’s Google TVs. However, Sony's TVs are based on an actual TV platform and Scandinavia is more similar to the Google's Android mobile platform.

Martin Ljunggren from People of Lava says that you can access 20 different internet services at the moment but more than 1000 will be available very soon. The TV comes with a bundled wireless keyboard that helps you control services such as YouTube, Google Maps, Facebook, Twitter, Webmail, a weather forecast service and a web browser.

The TV is 55-inches large but will also be available in 42 and 47 inches. It’s based on a LCD panel with Edge LED backlight and has 1920x1080 pixel resolution. It also comes with 3 HDMI inputs and USB.

The design is made from an alloy of 20% aluminum and 80% stone which gives a total weight of 42 kilograms.

Price? 40,000 Swedish kronor, equivalent to 5,800 US dollars, or 4250 Euro for the 55-inch variant. Learn more at www.peopleoflava.com.
