It is reported that Chinese manufacturers have joined forces in an OLED alliance. The goal is to compete with Korean, Japanese and Taiwanese display manufacturers in the battle of the next display technology era.

Samsung and LG were the first two to announce large-size OLED-TVs and they are still on track to launch their 55-inch OLED-TVs later this year. Recently, Japanese Sony and Panasonic also entered into an OLED alliance and LG has received funding for OLED development from the Korean government. Taiwanese AUO also has big plans for OLED.

The Chinese OLED manufacturers are now making moves to stay competitive. Only two companies, Visionox and Changhong, have been mentioned but the report says that others are involved, too. None of the companies have strong brands but are active in OLED research and production. Other Chinese OLED manufacturers include Tianma, Irico and BOE. Foxconn, who assembles electronics products for a range of the top electronics makers today, also recently invested in Sharp in order to compete in the display market.

Chinese display makers are not leaders today but in the transition to OLED technology the balance of power could be shifted, just like it did when LCD displays grew popular years ago and where LG and Samsung were leading the change.

The report also mentions that Chinese display manufacturers believe OLED displays will become the standard in mobile devices, digital cameras, gaming devices, TVs and tablets in the future.
