New UHD TVs from Loewe and a curved Masterpiece

26 Sep 2014 | Rasmus Larsen |

Following deep financial troubles in the recent year, things are now starting to look brighter for German Loewe. Loewe is launching four new Ultra HD TVs, including a curved Masterpiece model.

New UHD TVs from Loewe

We had a chance to see the new TVs at IFA earlier this month and you can experience them in stores in a few months’ time. The highlight was Loewe’s new curved Masterpiece TV, which was placed on a stage alone, rotating.

The 65-inch Masterpiece TV can be customized to your taste by changing for example the back panel and the fabric covering the speakers.

The Loewe Individual series will be discontinued and replaced by the Reference series. You will still be able to customize it by selecting different colors, fabrics and stands, but the options are not as extensive as on the former Individual model.

Reference is an Ultra HD TV with built-in 2x60W speakers and a 5.1 audio decoder that supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. It supports HDMI 2.0 as well as HEVC, which is required to stream in 4K over the internet. However, Netflix 4K has not been confirmed.

The Reference TV will be available in 55 and 65 inch sizes in black, silver or white.

Cheaper Loewe TVs, too

Loewe will also release new versions of its cheaper Art and Connect series. Art was presented as the "the world’s fastest when it comes to changing channels”.

Both of the TVs have Ultra HD resolution as well as HDMI 2.0 and HEVC. In addition, Loewe says that they have incorporated a more potent sound system than in typical TVs, and that the build quality is better, too. The Connect model adds a built-in hard drive and a triple-tuner that allows you to record two TV programs while watching a third. The Connect TVs can also stream recording to other TVs in your home and you can schedule recording from an app on your phone.

Loewe Connect will be available in "petrol blue", "chrome silver", cappuccino and black in 40, 55 and 65 inch sizes. Art will be available in "chrome silver" and black in 40, 48 and 55 inch sizes.

A new TV platform

All of the new Loewe TVs will be based on a new software platform and several existing TVs are also upgradable via an USB stick. The new platform enables faster channel switching, the ability to schedule recordings from a mobile device, a new "tv2move" feature that lets you watch your TV channels on a phone or tablet, and more.

Loewe calls it Assist Media 2015 and it is the building block for future TVs from the German manufacturer. It also offers access to several music and video streaming services via apps.

Prices and launch dates have not been announced and will depend on your region, but the first models should start rolling out in the coming months.
