Samsung’s head of the visual display division confirms that Samsung will show a new Smart TV platform based on the Tizen operating system at CES 2015 in Las Vegas next month. But besides that, there will be “no surprises”.

Samsung’s Tizen TV is coming
At CES next month, we can expect to see Samsung’s new type of Smart TVs based on Tizen, a cross-platform operating system developed for phones, tablets, TVs, and more.

- "We've said numerous times that people will get to meet a Tizen TV (that will be commercialized) next year," said Kim Hyun-suk according to CNET, "Everyone will get to see it."


The comment from Kim suggests that Samsung will release the first Tizen Smart TV in 2015, but there is no confirmation whether Samsung will incorporate it into all of its Smart TVs. Samsung will face stiff competition from other TV manufacturers that have chosen to support Google’s Android TV starting next year. LG has also rolled out its webOS TVs in 2014.

Kim made it clear that it has not yet be decided if the Tizen TV will be the main attraction at the Samsung booth, and further says that there “will be no surprise shows at CES”, which could mean that Samsung is still struggling to commercialize OLED TVs. The “no surprise” comment is a bit confusing, as Samsung is also expected to exhibit quantum dot TVs at CES.
