Metz, a German TV manufacturer today owned by Chinese Skyworth, confirmed at the IFA Innovations Media Briefing, a briefing ahead of the official IFA convention in September, that it will launch its first OLED TV very soon.

- “Metz OLED (in screen sizes 55” and 65”) is equipped with state of the art image technology, impresses with its design and, what is more, boasts excellent sound characteristics. The market launch is planned for September this year,” says Metz

The company recently went bankrupt but has re-emerged as a wholly-owned subsidiary of China’s Skyworth. Metz will continue to research and develop TVs in Zirndorf, Germany, where a team of approximately 160 people are employed.

- “We are very happy that, with Skyworth on our side, Metz has managed to restart. Our parent company is one of the top players in China in the TV segment, with major international goals for the coming years. For Metz, this situation means economic stability and a chance to heighten synergies together with our parent company, particularly in the technology segment. Thanks to this, Metz now has access to state of the art technology – an issue that was difficult for Metz to resolve in previous years,” says CEO Dr Norbert Kotzbauer.

Metz’ OLED TV will be available in 55” and 65” sizes, both with Ultra HD, 10-bit and HDR (high dynamic range). The panels are expected to be sourced from LG Display. Metz says that the TVs will also support 3D, using passive 3D technology.

The TVs will be sold as ‘Metz Novum Twin-R’ to highlight the fact that there is an integrated 1TB hard drive for recording as well as integrated TV tuners for terrestrial, cable, and satellite broadcasts. There is also a built-in media player and WiFi.

Metz’ OLED TVs will be available in Europe in September in 55” and 65” sizes for 4999 and 6999 Euro, respectively.
