Toshiba TVs will return to Europe with the help of Vestel. The line-up consists of a 65-inch X97 OLED TV as well as the two U77 and U67 LCD ranges. These are “mid-market range” TVs, the company said.
Toshiba returns to Europe
Japan’s Toshiba was forced to leave Europe after years of headwind. Toshiba TVs will now return to Europe under a brand licensing agreement with Vestel, which also has several other TV brands under its umbrella.
Today, the company announced three TV ranges, including the 65-inch X97 OLED TV with 4K resolution, 10-bit colors, and 99% DCI-P3 color gamut. Toshiba X97 has a “bezel-free, edge-to-edge” design and built-in apps such as Netflix and YouTube. Toshiba says that it has also managed to improve motion thanks to its MEMC (motion estimation / motion compensation) engine .
- "With this launch, we're not only breathing new life into an iconic TV brand, but also revitalizing the industry by offering an alternative mid-market range,“ said Matthew, Head of Toshiba TVs and Managing Director of Vestel UK.
X97 has four HDMI inputs and can be parred with a speaker box and wireless subwoofer to improve sound and add DTS TruSurround HD support.
Wide color gamut LCD
Besides the X97 OLED, you can also expect to see two LCD ranges, namely U77 and U67. While U77 has a wide color gamut LCD panel, U67 has a more traditional 4K LCD panel.
U77 will be available in 55 and 49-inch sizes with 4K resolution, 10-bit panels, and 99% DCI-P3 coverage, the company said. These will also feature the MEMC system and access to 4K streaming content via Netflix and YouTube.
- “With the advantage of a large-scale manufacturing site so close to Europe, Toshiba TVs is perfectly placed to bring more of the latest TV technologies to the mainstream sector - and in quick-to-market time frames,“ the company added.
Regarding the U77 and U67, Toshiba said that “as well as offering front speakers for greater clarity and subwoofers to project the base sound, both TVs come with DTS TruSurround HD to ensure that the audio can be heard from every direction”.
Availability and pricing was not announced but Vestel said that the OLED and wide color gamut LCD TV will be “accessible”.
