Samsung 2233RZ: First 120Hz and 3D-monitor

|

Samsung has announced the addition of their first simulating 3D monitor. The Samsung 2233RZ, which is compatible with NVIDIA's GeForce 3D Vision graphics card, will be available for purchase in April 2009 and carries an MSRP of $349.

The Samsung 2233RZ is the first monitor to accept and run at a 120 Hz frequency; an important step in serious gaming on LCD monitors. Traditional LCD monitors run at 60 Hz (some at 75 Hz). 120 Hz means that the graphic card can send 120 images to the monitor each second for far better performance.

- "More users are enjoying higher performance games and movies using high-performance graphic boards," said R.A. Atanus, Vice President of Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics' Information Technology Division.
"As entertainment content becomes more available, the need for hardware technology to maintain increasing volumes of software content becomes more important. Combining this new 3D technology with Samsung's LCD monitor creates an optimal viewing tool -- for uses ranging from teaching and using 3D modeling to playing the latest video games."

The Samsung 2233RZ monitor boasts a streamlined design. The display is housed in a thin, glossy black bezel.
It provides the “3D experience” with Nvidia shutter glasses, and users can now set up a shortcut key to easily shuttle between 2D and 3D.

The 3D Stereoscopic Experience
The 2233RZ, in conjunction with NVIDIA's software, converts over 350 games to stereoscopic 3D without the need for special game patches. Active shutter glasses deliver double the resolution per eye. The 120Hz LCD monitor unlock flicker-free stereoscopic 3D gaming that provides 60Hz per eye.

The 3D glasses are designed so that users can simultaneously wear prescription glasses comfortably. This ensures that users with corrective eyewear can view fully-immersive stereoscopic 3D. In addition, adjustable nose pieces are included to ensure a custom fit for each user. The 3D glasses are easily powered over a standard USB cable and can last an entire week without a recharge, which helps to minimize battery replacement.

Specifications:
  • 1680 by 1050 Native Resolution
  • 300 cd/m2 Brightness
  • 20,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
  • 170°/160° (CR>10) Viewing Angle

Samsung 2233RZ will be available for purchase in April 2009 for $349.
