I recently purchased a 50" Panasonic VT20EA. It's a sweet TV all-in-all, but something bothers me.

So far I've used it mostly for gaming (PS3) and during darker levels I can see the TV switching brightness to somehow match the scenery. I use the TV in a colour calibrated THX mode, Eco mode is turned off and room lighting is consistent.

Case in point would be Uncharted 2. When I press Start, the screen goes darker to show the menu and my TV compenates by inching the brightness up by a few visible notches (within a second or so). The brightness toggle stays put but I can clearly see the difference. When I bring up the in-game XMB with the PS button the brightness goes down a notch again, as the XMB icons seem to have quite a lot of brightness to them.

What could be the cause to this and can I stop my TV from doing it?
