The only thing I care about is the best possible picture, without noise around moving objects, inky blacks and the most lifelike colours. In 2D and 3D. I currently have a TX-P42G15, and it's great except for the blacks and image retention, so I would like to know if the TX-P50VT30 has been improved in these area's. The G15 has visible retention after a 2 hour movie (21:9, with subtitles).
VT30 does not give you the inky blacks of a Pioneer KURO TV, you have to know that. Black depth is great but not perfect. Also, image retention is not eliminated. I think that it's lower than on your current TV but you will still see minor subtitle retention after a 2 hour movie.

But personally I think that the picture quality is worth the image retention and higher energy consumption, yes.
Thanks :) , I finally ordered the 50VT30. Can't wait to pick it up :D .

Hi,

thx to your review, i'm now happy owner of a 50vt30.

I'm trying to set up my screen in my multimedia environment, and i'm facing trouble with my htpc.

The screen and the htpc are wired trough hdmi. I have random underscan...

In your reviews, you noticed that
The TV supports 1:1 pixel mapping. In order to achieve 1:1 pixel mapping you need to select the aspect ratio called “Just" in the OSD. You also need to deactivate 16:9 overscan in the advanced picture menu.
.

I don't know where you've found this "Just" aspect ration. I have only automatic (which do everything but right), 16:9, 14:9, and different zoom thaht i'll never use.

Is there a secret menu ? Where in the OSD did you find the "Just" aspect ratio which allowed perfect 1:1 pixel mapping.

This is my first post and I wanted to begin by congratulating Rasmus Larsen for his mind bogglingly excellent, thorough reviews using a precision systematic methodology which has to be one the finest on the internet. With this in mind I always find it helpful to compare such an endevour with other thorough explorations where possible. The only other place I could find that came close in terms of methodology are the avforum reviews by Steve Withers. Here is the link to the Panasonic VT30 65''.

http://www.avforums.com/review/Panasoni ... eview.html

In the main the reviews of the Pani VT30's reach similar conclusions except for two issues. Firstly, avforum does not find and/or mention the same color gradation problems. Secondly, Rasmus Larsen mentions that the Kuro G9 has better blacks. However, Steve Withers who owns a G9 Kuro measured the G9 black level in his 'batcave' at 0.03cm. The VT30 measures at a lower 0.02cm identical to the flatpanel measurement. The peak brightness is higher with the Kuro however, but the contrast ratio still favours the Panasonic VT30. I have no idea why there are these differences. One possibility is that FlatpanelHD is more searching with regard to color gradation issues. Another may relate to burn in. The avforum review ran the VT30 for 150 hours before the review. I am not sure if FlatpanelHD followed the same protocol. If not, then maybe the panel improves in performance as it 'runs in' particularly regarding color gradation problems. The only other difference is that FPHD reviewed the 50'' model while AVF reviewed the 65''. But I find that difference the weakest to swallow. I know these differences are rather small but still important for those who want the very best. anyone any ideas?

Regards,

Paul

Does anybody know if there is any plan from Panasonic in creating the 46 inches version of the Panasonic VT30?

It sounds really strange to have the 42 inches, not the 46 and yes the higher sized ones.

My 65VT30 has very noticeable buzzing even from 10 feet away when the TV is showing complete black screen, e.g. those cut scenes in a movie trailer or flipping channels from cable box.
Panasonic has sent field specialist to check and the buzz comes from a transformer on one of the circuit boards.
Replacing the board won't help. Worse still, Panasonic is saying the buzzing is normal and within spec and refuses to take further action to resolve the issue.

It is really disappointing to me that the flagship model exhibits this kind of issue. :(

Thank you for a great review!
I've been using VT30 week - very pleased and very grateful to you.
I made a very precise calibration of my TV, but I had your setup is also very helpful.
Thank you.
