It would be interesting to see if you could do a second piece on the POS9002 to see if their findings hold true.
Unfortunately, we've returned the set. We accept that frame interpolation may have some advantages for gaming, if input lag remains low, but we didn't check.

For all other scenarios, we feel that motion interpolation should be abolished. If the TV industry wants smoother and better motion they should move to HFR (High Frame Rate). Address the problem at its root. Just our opinion, and one of the reasons why we generally ignore the motion interpolation systems in TV reviews.

Motion interpolation does so much more than that. Apps on Sony Android TV render at a permanent 60 frames per second. No way to change the refresh rate as the respective APIs are not implemented. I don't mind so much about 24p as I am pretty fine with a 3:2 pulldown. What really hurts is playing PAL video at 60Hz. I typically set Motionflow Smoothness in the middle on my Sony (3). It does not add any soap opera effect. Artifacting is also at a very minimum. The upconversion from 25/50fps to 60fps removes judder introduced by the discrepancy between source fps and output Hz pretty well...

Even in Europe, 50Hz is not the default anymore for today's TVs. As I said, Android TV on my Sony is rendered at 60fps. And if you play some 60fps video, it is perfectly smooth, whereas 50fps video stutters unless you engage some Motionflow. The world is moving. Most content on Netflix and Amazon is 24p which plays much better at 60Hz using a 3:2 pulldown. Also on YouTube, you will find lots of 24p/30p/60p content. Still you need a way to properly play 25/50fps PAL content, either by switching refresh rate (which is not possible on Sony) or by engaging some mild motion interpolation.

Things are of course different for HDMI where the connected player controls refresh rate.

Hello Rasmus,

I finally get this Philips model, and I noticed throught Input Lag Test of your Web, that PC mode have less Input Lag than Game Mode. Its about 20,5 ms in PC mode vs 31,8 in GAME mode in my measuraments.

Do you noticed that? What is the diference between the two modes?

Pc mode can enable HDR?

Thanks a lot.

Most things inside apply to Philips as well, as apart from the panel, it is almost the same as Sony...

The big problem is that MediaTek is cheap shit, which is responsible for a lot of the limitations and instabilities.

Apart from that I can't say a lot about Philips. Tuner integration looks quite good...

I didn't take a measurement for input lag in the PC mode. How did you measure it?

I no longer have POS9002 around so I can't check.

Thanks for your answering.

I measured throught Input Lag Test of your Web. I know that is not a 100% valid method, but the diferences between PC mode and Game mode are about 10 ms on average.

Ahh OK. We have switched to using the Leo Bodnar hardware tester. If I get a chance to check out POS9002 at a later time, I will definitely try to take another reading in the PC mode :)

We've spoken with Philips and they've confirmed that Android 7.0 has started rolling out. 2016 models will be prioritized, then 2017 models. It will take several weeks if not months to fully roll out.

Here are the new features that owners of POS9002 can also look forward to: http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?su ... 1507199176
