Yours is one of very few reviews that talks about the light fluctuations present on this TV.. which is quite surprising, given how easy it is to see the problem.

Samsung did update the firmware, which has solved the problem of it seeking the correct brightness so badly (as per your video), but the Q9FN still has issues;

Light fluctuations. Caused by the Contrast Enhancer;

FALD making a mess of solid backgrounds under certain circumstances;

There are plenty of people complaining about the same issues in the Samsung forums, especially in regard to subtitles in dark scenes.. the latest series of Narcos on Netflix is a good way to see this issue in action.

It's very disappointing that Samsung aren't able to do a better job of managing the light levels properly; FALD allows them to target the light much more accurately than edge-lit, so I wasn't expecting light areas in one part of the screen to affect the light levels elsewhere in the scene.

I assume you never got any response out of Samsung on your findings?

No, there were no promises given, and in general Samsung only pass on our comments but can’t give any timeframe.

I've just bought this TV and wonder if you can answer a question. Via the service menu I have enabled the Cal-day/night picture profiles to give me more options to store picture settings. Both work fine on SDR but neither will switch to HDR when presented with HDR material from either the TV apps or from HDMI source. All the default profiles work properly with HDR material from the same sources.

And the question is...?

I'm sensitive to PWM flickering. What PWM freaquency is used in Q9FN? I read RTings review telling about 480Hz in Movie mode. Is that freaquency high enough to feel yourself comfortable?

It should be but sensitivity varies so I can’t say for sure. You’ll have to try it out yourself.

What would you have me say? The frequency is high enough not to bother me, but if I promised you that your eyes would react the same, I’d be guessing blindly (no pun intended).
