Panasonic will soon release its 2015 TVs in Europe and the US so I thought we could dedicate this forum thread to discussing the new TVs. I also have some more details to share from the launch event.

We are chasing prices and shipping dates. There is still no official release date for the OLED TV, but Panasonic said that it “maybe by late 2015”. We’ll believe it when we see it.

Panasonic on HDR
Panasonic will support HDR in its 8 series models. HDR = high dynamic range for more spectacular and bright highlights and deeper and more nuanced blacks. Much like HDR in photos.

Panasonic on wide color gamut
Panasonic is trying to increase the color gamut of its TVs but is not using quantum dots as most other TV manufacturers. Instead, Panasonic is using phosphor to increase the color gamut. They claim that their technology is much more power efficient and that it can reach 98% of DCI, compared to 92% for quantum dots. See the photo below.

Wow great. Thanks.

I'm planning on buying a new TV in 2015 and I'm currently trying to decide between a Panasonic and Sony.

Do you already know which TVs you will take in for testing this year? :)

Will you also review the CX800? I'm very interested in hearing more about HDR.
I've been reading early impressions and my understanding is that it might be a more significant step than 4K resolution.

No plans unfortunately. But since it uses an IPS panel, expect it too have weaker black levels compared to the CX700 (VA panel).

I know. I am very interested in the CX750 serie because it has an IPS panel with passive 3D.
