With the launch of its high-end 2022 OLED TVs and miniLED LCD TV, Philips is rolling out the next generation of Ambilight with improved mood lighting and an Aurora gallery function.
After having expanded Ambilight in recent years to work with Hue bulbs, video gaming, music and more, Philips is now introducing 'Ambilight Next Generation'.
The new Ambilight system no longer divides the rear mounted LEDs into groups. The company explained to FlatpanelsHD that improved RGB LED pixels behind the TV have three drivers (one per subpixel) for individual control, more precise matching to the on-screen image, and a wider range of colors.
2022 Philips TV models with next-gen Ambilight include OLED807 (4-sided), OLED907 (3-sided), OLED937 (4-sided) and PML9507 (4-sided).

Ambilight Aurora
Philips is also introducing Aurora in some of its 2022 models. Aurora is a new gallery function with pre-loaded images and videos that can be displayed together with Ambilight when the TV is not in use.
Aurora is found in 2022 models from 'The One' (PUS8507) and up, meaning that it also works in some 2022 models without Ambilight Next Generation.
FlatpanelsHD recorded this presentation of next-gen Ambilight (first part of the video) and Aurora (starts around 6:30). Sorry about the low audio (noisy environment).
At launch, users cannot upload their own photos to Aurora due to GDPR restrictions but the company said that it is looking into ways to enable manual photo upload in the future – no promises made.
Most of Philips' 2022 TV models are available now in Europe. We refer to the table below and the TV Database for more information.
