TCL's first QD-OLED TV will launch in the second half of 2023 - Update: No longer

At CES 2023, TCL has confirmed plans to launch its first QD-OLED TV in the second half of 2023 as an alternative to its high-end miniLED LCD TVs.
Update 11.01.2023: TCL is now backtracking on its announcement: "A line in the TCL CES 2023 press release confirming plans to launch the brand's first QD-OLED television this year was incorrectly included. TCL is focused on its award-winning mini-LED technology in 2023 -- including the recently announced TCL QM8 98-inch TV", the company wrote in a statement to FlatpanelsHD. Original article text below.
In 2017, Hisense, Samsung and TCL formed the QLED Alliance. The companies positioned "QLED" – and later miniLED LCD TVs – as a front against OLED from LG, Sony, Panasonic, Philips and others.

Hisense changed its mind and launched its first OLED TV just one year later, but it took longer for Samsung to embrace the new display technology for TVs. It happened in 2022 with QD-OLED. The last major holdout among the major TV makers, TCL, is now also joining the dark side.

QD-OLED and miniLED LCD

TCL said that QD-OLED and miniLED LCD "will both hold premium positions in TCL's 2023 TV line-up" with a focus on miniLED LCD for super-large screens up to 98 inches with 4K resolution. The QD-OLED model was announced by TCL North America so it is unclear if it is also coming to Europe and other regions. Details are not yet known but we are chasing information. It will in all likelihood use Samsung Display's panel which in 2023 will come in 55, 65 and 77 inches, with over 2000 nits peak brightness.
