16 Apr 2009 | Rasmus Larsen |

Philips will introduce the 9700 series in summer 2009. The 9700 series is built to offer the best picture quality from Philips so far with LED Lux backlight – including the internet TV feature. The 9700 series with its distinctive design in brushed aluminum, will be available in 40”, 46” and 52” screen sizes with an optional “always straight” wall mounting system available.

Pure performance in picture quality
The 9700 series combines Full HD with the Philips LED local dimming backlight technology (LED LUX). Philips says the 9700 series is able to display an astonishing 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. We have reviewed the first LED Lux LCD-TV from Philips; the 9803H series. Read our review and see the measurements from the LED Lux here: Philips 42PFL9803H review

The 9700 series also has a 200Hz Clear LCD system and a 1 millisecond response time on the specsheet. As well as featuring the LED LUX technology, the 9700 series comes with the 2009 version of Perfect Pixel HD engine and the Perfect Natural Motion that results in smoother motion.

“Perfect Colours” is the combination of new colour sources, colour processing, and a Wide Colour Gamut display. Colours are handled by the 17-bit internal processor.

The set boasts the new 2009 version of Philips Ambilight Spectra 3 technology, which generates ambient lighting from three sides of the screen onto a rear wall.

Sound
The 9700 series sports 2x15W speakers to provide convincing sound performance. The speaker system consists of front firing dome tweeters integrated into the front of the TV that are covered by sound grilles A volume bass and speaker boxes are integrated into the back of the TV.

Net TV
A new feature is Net TV, which enables internet access to a wide range of sites from a start page on the TV screen. The Net TV feature has websites from European partners that include names such as YouTube, eBay, TomTom, MeteoGroup, Netlog, Funspot and MyAlbum plus a range of local partners.

Through Net TV internet content is easily accessed through the TV’s remote control, without the need for extra set-top boxes or subscriptions, or turning on a laptop.

The 9600 series features an integrated DVB-T/DVB-C/MPEG-4 HDTV receiver to receive high definition broadcasting where available. The 9600 series also boasts five HDMI 1.3a EasyLink inputs.
In addition to Net TV, it also features Wi-Fi and a PC network connection with DNLA - enabling access to the PC and all networked content to view videos, pictures and music.
