US-based video streaming service, Hulu, is currently trying to secure deals with major studios in Germany, Horizont.net reports. Hulu is not available in any European country today.

Hulu coming to Germany?

Hulu is competing with Netflix in the US but the two streaming companies could take competition to Europe in the near future. Netflix is about to enter the UK in 2012 and Hulu hopes to launch in Germany soon, according to German newspaper Horizont.net.

Today Hulu offers a range of internet on-demand movies and TV shows, including The Simpsons and Prison Break. Hulu is free but contains commercial. A Hulu Plus service with more content and full-season TV shows is available for a monthly fee.

Hulu is owned by NBC Universal, Fox and Disney- ABC Television Group. The companies explored a sale of the Hulu service a few months ago but in October they decided to take Hulu off the market.

Currently the European market is very fragmented with very country-wide services, due to strict video rights limitations. However, if Hulu launches in Germany a more widespread European launch might not be far away.
