Blu-ray players that can stream TV shows and movies directly to Android smartphone and tablets, wirelessly. That is how Samsung presents their new 2012 Blu-ray players.
Samsung's 2012 Blu-ray players
Samsung's new 3D flagship Blu-ray player for 2012 is called BD-ES6000 and is not much larger than a disc. The other flagship model is called BD-ES6500 and arrives with 3D capabilities and built-in WiFi.
The new top-end Blu-ray players from Samsung can stream media content such as movies and Tv shows to Samsung’s smartphones and tablets via your home network. Samsung also boasts a Disc2Digital function that lets you save a digital edition of your DVD in an Ultraviolet cloud locker. With Ultraviolet you have access to your movies on any device – but HD quality streaming costs money.
The players also come with Samsung’s Smart Hub with TV apps and other Smart TV features such as WiFi Direct that allow you to push media content from handheld devices directly onto the TV screen.
A new feature is Samsung’s AllShare Play that offers a 5GB cloud locker where pictures and other media files can be uploaded and shared across devices and with friends and family – if they own a Samsung Smart device.
The BD-ES6500 also boasts two HDMI inputs, enabling users to connect two other HDMI devices with pass-through and thus only requiring one HDMI cable to the TV.
Prices and dates are TBA. Samsung will introduce a total of 11 new Blu-ray players in 2012.
