Samsung has started mass production of large-size transparent LCD panels, and says that they have already received requests from companies planning to use the transparent panels in refrigerators and other applications.<br /><br /><h3>Transparent LCDs are coming</h3>Samsung has exhibited transparent LCD panels <a href=http://www.flatpanelshd.com/article.php?subaction=showfull&id=1320403258><b>several times in the past</b></a> and mass production has now been initialized. The first panel that went into production was the <a href=http://flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1301558203><b>22-incher</b></a> and the 46-inch version is now ready.<br /><br /><p align=center><img class="imgresponsive" src="pictures/samsungtranslcd.jpg" alt="Samsung has started mass production of 46-inch transparent LCD"><br><i>Samsung has started mass production of 46-inch transparent LCD</i></p><br />The transparent 46-inch LCD panel has a 1366x768 pixel resolution and 4500:1 contrast ratio. If the panel proves successful, Samsung can expand production to other screen sizes.<br /><br /><p align=center><a id="thumb" href="pictures/samsungtranslcd-1l.jpg" class="highslide" rel="highslide"><img class="imgresponsive" src="pictures/samsungtranslcd-1.jpg" alt="Samsung has started mass production of 46-inch transparent LCD" title="Click to enlarge" /></a><br><i>Samsung has started mass production of 46-inch transparent LCD</i></p><br />Samsung says that they have already received requests from companies wishing to use the transparent LCD panels in commercial refrigerators, but Samsung also believes in other applications such as e-boards, information windows and medical equipment.<br /><br />Samsung also has a 22-inch version in production that has been well received by customers and “potential customers in mobile devices, jewelry and luxury goods sectors”, Samsung says.<br /><br />Research firm Display Bank expects the transparent display to grow from US$0.9 billion in 2015 to US$87 billion in 2025.
