LG is currently working hard to bring their 55-inch OLED-TV to market but LG is also working on 4K OLED-TVs that will be out in the near future, possibly already 2013.
LG working on 4K OLED-TV
LG’s first 55-inch OLED-TV will be out in a few months but LG only plans to sell around 50,000 in 2012. However, in the next few years LG has big plans for the OLED displays.
LG’s 55-inch OLED-TV is coming this year and LG hopes to release a 4K OLED-TV next year
LG is already working on a 4K TV, and at two different occasions they have talked about a possible 2013 launch. 4K resolution is considerably higher than today’s Full HD standard and is required when screen sizes are pushed upwards.
LG shares no specific details about the 4K OLED-TV but says that they are also working on larger sized OLED-TVs and curved displays.
LG expects OLED-TVs to sell at a 50 % premium over LCDs in 2015 and by that time OLED-TVs should account for 50 % of the 47-inch+ segment. By 2017 they expect OLED-TVs to cost less than LCDs, and thus entering the mainstream market.
