Asus and Netgear both announced new Google TV boxes at CES in Las Vegas. Asus calls it Qube and Netgear calls it the NeoTV Prime. Can Google TV finally take off?

Asus Qube with Google TV

Google TV still shows promise but has never had the major breakthrough that Google hoped for. Two new companies will help Google realize the vision in 2013.

Asus has announced the Qube with a QWERTY remote and Asus’ own Google TV skin. The small box has a distinctive cross-line design and will connect to the Google TV world via WiFi. Voice controls are supported and Asus promotes 50GB of cloud storage through its WebStorage service.

Asus Qube is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2013 for around $150.

Netgear NeoTV Prime with Google TV

Netgear’s NeoTV Prime is another new Google TV box with all the Google TV features and TV apps such as Hulu Plus and Netflix. The players also support home network and USB hard drive files. Additionally, Netgear announced that SlingPlayer comes to its NetTV lineup of players. SlingPlayer can stream TV channels from a Slingbox connected elsewhere in the house.
