A new media player has joined the race and looks to challenge Apple TV and Roku. But Fanhattan, the company behind the Fan TV box, wants to do more. They want to integrate all your live TV channels with your streaming services in one seamless TV interface.
Fan TV box to combine live TV & streaming TV
So, you have TV channels and you have streaming services – at least if you live in some regions – but how do you combine them?
Fan TV – box on bottom and remote on top
Fanhattan think they have the answer with Fan TV, which is a small media box designed by Yver Behar and developed by a group led by the BitTorrent client co-founder, Gilles BianRosa. The box is controlled via touch gestures on the small remote you see lying on top of the box.
Gilles BianRosa says that he believes HDMI pass-through solutions where a set-top box is connected via another box and then connected to the TV are clunky. A HDMI pass-through solution has been used in the ill-fated Google TV project and is also coming to Xbox One.
The user interface is seamless with simple and intelligent navigation. The system also includes a cloud DVR that can be used for recordings. A video introduction can be seen below.
Fan TV will be out later this year but details on pricing, release date, and availability remain undisclosed.
