Panasonic is one of the few TV makers without a 4K TV to call its own. But that will change soon. According to Nikkei, Panasonic will launch its first 4K TVs this fall.

Panasonic has a range of TVs with 4K (Ultra HD) resolution coming. According to Nikkei, Panasonic aims to launch 4K TVs from 50” sizes and up.

Panasonic is almost synonymous with plasma TV technology but according to the report Panasonic’s first 4K TV will be a LCD model with LED backlighting. Plasma technology can theoretically scale to 4K resolution in large TVs but power consumption raises drastically and brightness levels are too low for daytime viewing.

Panasonic exhibited a 56" OLED-TV with 4K resolution back in January 2013 but has no plans to launch it at this point.

Panasonic’s first 4K TVs will most likely be unveiled at the IFA 2013 show in Berlin this September.
