Asus is the latest to launch a monitor in the ultra-wide 21:9 format. The 29-inch Designo MX299Q has an IPS panel, 2560x1080 pixel resolution and built-in stereo speakers.

Pretty much every monitor maker has launched its own version of a 21:9 format monitor even though there is little evidence of consumer traction. Asus is the latest to join the race.

The 29-inch MX229Q utilizes an IPS panel with 2560x1080 pixels, 5 ms response time and 178/178 viewing angles. It can be connected to a PC or movie player with HDMI, DisplayPort or DVI. It also has built-in 3W stereo speakers, based on ICEpower technology. Additionally it supports MHL connections from mobile devices and has a 3,5mm audio out connection.

Asus MX299Q is available now in Asia, Europe and USA. It sells for around 450 Euro.
