Sony recently cut the prices of its X9 4K TVs, but they are still in the premium segment. Sony now adds cheaper X8 4K TVs without side-mounted speakers to its TV line-up.
Sony X8 4K TVs, without side speakers
Sony’s new X8 TVs have been quietly announced at IFA 2013 in Berlin. X8 is said to be basically identical to X9, with 4K (3840x2160 pixels) resolution, Triluminos, and the same picture technology, but without the elephant ear speakers. Instead, X8 has a slim-bezel design. X8 also switches to active 3D technology instead of passive 3D (on X9).

The X8 TVs will have HDMI 2.0 ports (via a firmware update, like the X9), Sony Entertainment Network with TV apps, and all of Sony’s multimedia features, including NFC one-touch, Miracast, and support for the TV SideView app that we talked about in our Sony W9 review.
Sony’s 55” 55X850A and 65” 65X850A will be available in USA in October for $3499 and $4999, respectively. It will not be available in Europe. Read FlatpanelsHD’s Sony X9 review here.
