Philips expands Ambilight to the living room

The system was actually announced in July, but at IFA 2013 Philips will demonstrate it to the world press and consumers. The concept is called Ambilight+Hue, and Philips wants to expand the Ambilight experience to the living rooms with its Hue LED lamps.

Philips is very committed to its Hue lighting system with LED-based lamps. The Hue bulbs can be programmed, controlled via Android and iOS, and now they can also interact with Philips’ Ambilight TVs.

Ambilight+Hue can expand the Ambilight effect to living room if you have the Hue bulbs installed. Lighting can either follow the colors on-screen or shine with a constant color temperature, for example 6500 Kelvin white or a cold bluish tone. The system can be set up via the Ambilight+Hue app on Android and iOS.

The new system will officially launch with the Philips Elevation TV that has four-sided Ambilight, but it will also work on Philips Ambilight TVs from 2011 and onwards.

Philips has created a demo site where you can try the system with an interactive tool.
