It was quite unexpected to see an OLED TV from a Chinese TV makers at IFA - but it was not the only surprise. Budget TV maker Seiki from California also showcased a 55-inch OLED TV.

It is no surprise to see OLED TV prototypes from the Japanese and South Korean TV makers nowadays, but it is more surprising to see it from second-tier or even third-tier TV makers. Seiki does not own a panel manufacturing plant so the panel must have been sourced elsewhere.

We do not know who produces the OLED panel in Seiki’s OLED TV, but we hear that it is a 55-inch panel. Seiki also mentions that it has a response time of just 1 microsecond (not millisecond). The panel is probably produced by either Samsung or LG. LG might be the best guess, as they have openly discussed selling OLED panels to other TV makers in the past.
Either way, Seiki could be an interesting player in the OLED market. Seiki is already driving down prices on 4K TVs in USA with a 50” that sells for just over $1100 and a 39” that sells for less than 700 dollars.
