The PlayStation 4 has officially launched in the US to long lines and stock-outs online and in stores. At Sony’s launch event a few new things were announced, including Naughty Dog’s announcement of a new Uncharted game. The PS4 will not support 3D Blu-ray at launch.
Sony promises big games for PS4
At the PlayStation 4 launch event, Sony promised that big games are coming to the console, responding to fans’ complaints about the slim launch line-up (we recently got some hands-on time with the console and a few games). The most significant announcement came from game developer Naughty Dog, who confirmed that a new Uncharted game is coming to the PlayStation 4.
At the event Sony also revealed that Infamous: Second Son will launch on March 21, 2014 and that the new shooter Destiny will be playable first on the PS4 as a beta.
As a side note, Sony has confirmed that the PS4 will not support 3D Blu-ray playback at launch. Sony has also responded to fan criticism, saying that they will add support for mp3 and CD playback in a later update.
Pre-orders for the PlayStation 4 will start arriving today and over the weekend, and some stores offered a limited stock of consoles from midnight. Amazon also had PS4 consoles in stock at midnight, but they quickly sold out. You can still order the console online, but no shipping estimate is offered.
At Sony’s big launch event they generally focused on the future instead of the present. The PlayStation 4 is launched with the tagline “Greatness Awaits”, and we guess they are right. You have to wait a little longer for the truly great games, but excitement around the PlayStation 4 is still growing.
