HBO has announced that the popular HBO GO streaming app is coming to the PlayStation game consoles. First on PlayStation 3, with PlayStation 4 to follow later.

HBO GO for PS3 and PS4

Soon you will be able to stream HBO shows such as Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, and True Detective via your PlayStation. However, you will still require a HBO subscription through your TV provider.

Nothing was said regarding picture quality or technical details, but current apps typically offer up to 720p resolution and stereo sound, but HBO has started offering Dolby Digital Plus in some TV apps recently.

HBO says that the app will appear “soon” on the PlayStation 3 and later on the PlayStation 4. The app already exists on Xbox 360 and will launch on Xbox One later in 2014.
