Microsoft announced that 3D Blu-ray will be added to Xbox One in the coming August update, and that sparked a prompt reaction from Sony. The PS4 will get 3D Blu-ray support in an update next week.

Other media features still missing

Microsoft’s next major update for Xbox One will be released in August and among other things it will enable 3D Blu-ray playback, which has been missing since launch.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox

Sony had also promised 3D Blu-ray support for PS4 at the launch events, but as we noted in our review, several media features were missing, including 3D, even though the feature is available on the PS3.

Today, Sony announced that PS4 will receive 3D Blu-ray support in an update next week. However, Sony made no mention of in-home streaming via DLNA, which was also promised before launch. There is no mention of 4K video playback either.
