This is the first time that Spotify Connect has been integrated in a Smart TV, according to Philips. It will be available in all of Philips’ Android-based Smart TVs by September.

First Smart TVs with Spotify Connect

Spotify Connect allows you to push music from your smartphone or tablet app over to the TV. It makes it easier to control all of your playlists and explore new music, and while Spotify is playing on your TV you can use your phone for other tasks.

Spotify Connect is already available in many music systems, but this is the first time it has been integrated into a TV, Philips says. The company believes that it demonstrates the potential of the Android platform in TVs. Philips will release new TVs based on Google’s upcoming Android TV platform next year. The current TVs are based on an old Android version for phones.

The Spotify app in the TVs will require a Premium subscription. Now Philips just needs to integrate great music speakers into its TVs to be the center of the party.
