The selection of apps is still relatively weak on Xbox One outside the US, but the arrival of BBC iPlayer adds one of the most popular services in the UK.

Shortly after the TV channel debut, BBC shows will become available on the on-demand service that has streamed over 10 billion TV and radio programmes since launch, according to BBC. Content is streaming in HD quality and the app also supports Kinect voice commands such as “Xbox, pause”.

- “This Christmas BBC iPlayer is coming home. With a huge 1 in 4 requests now coming from TV sets, new iPlayer’s popularity is going beyond solo, small screen viewing – it’s also the place to gather round and recreate the magic of shared viewing on BBC One and Two, but at a time that suits your family.” says BBC.

BBC has also extended the download period for TV shows to 30 days, from previously 7, meaning you can download content to your mobile device when on the move.

BBC iPlayer is available to download on Xbox One now. It is also available on PlayStation 4.
