Comcast has announced that its new service Xfinity is now streaming in 4K. Only a few TV series are available in 4K and the higher resolution is only available on 2014 Samsung Smart TVs but more is coming in 2015.
Comcast starts streaming in 4K
Netflix was the first service to start streaming in 4K, and Amazon joined them earlier this month. Comcast is now also streaming in 4K via its new service “Xfinity in UHD”.
The catalog is still small but includes the current seasons of Chicago Fire, Suits, and Covert Affairs. In February, Comcast will add Parks and Recreation to the catalog, and more is coming later in 2015.
- "Next year, we will not only debut the full Xfinity in UHD catalog across our Xfinity TV Go platforms for all customers to enjoy, but we will begin distributing a new X1 set-top box that will deliver 4K content." said Matt Strauss, SVP for Comcast.
The “Xfinity in UHD” app is only available for 2014 Samsung Smart TVs but it is expected to arrive on other Smart TVs next year.
