Airtame was a big crowdfunding success story of 2014, but the product is still not shipping. The team is currently working hard on software issues and is now planning to start shipping the product by summer 2015 - more than one year later than planned.
Airtame delayed again
Airtame is a small TV dongle that will let you mirror the screen from a PC or mobile device onto the TV screen. Just like many other projects, it was launched as a crowdfunding campaign on indiegogo and raises $1.25 million.
Following a successful campaign the team promised to add more features to the final product. The original plan was to start shipping in May 2014 but the launch was later postponed to October 2014. When October came the team was forced to re-open the crowdfunding campaign to ask for more money. The final product is now expected to launch sometime this summer.
The situation has obviously made early backers disappointed and angry. The Airtame team promises that the delays will ensure a better product. The hardware is finished but the software is not working as intended, and currently audio is not working.
Airtame expects to start shipping this summer where the small dongle will have to compete with Chromecast, Miracast devices and Apple Airplay. It is expected to cost 2-3 times more than the $99 price that was announced in 2014 but will support for Windows, OS X, Android, iOS and Windows Phone.
