A Netflix remote button is coming to TVs in Europe

01 Apr 2015 | Rasmus Larsen |

As part of a plan to roll out the “Recommended for Netflix” certification program for TVs, Netflix has convinced Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba, and Vestel to put a Netflix button on the remote control for TVs sold in Europe.

Netflix button on your remote

If you live in the US you have probably already seen the red and white Netflix button. Now it is coming to Europe. When we met Netflix in Las Vegas a few months ago they told us that it should be as easy and fast to start Netflix as turning on a TV channel. That is why they want a button on your remote.

Netflix has convinced Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba, and Vestel to put a button on the remote control of Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, and media streamers. The new 2015 products will start shipping in a matter of weeks. Netflix says that certain 2014 products already have the button.

- “The new Netflix button on remotes in Europe makes watching Netflix as easy as changing the channel on traditional TV, allowing viewers to enjoy our great programming much quicker,” said Bill Holmes, head of business development for Netflix.

The "Recommended for Netflix" sticker will start showing up on TVs in select regions later this year if the TVs live up to Netflix’s requirements for load times, user experience, and picture quality (4K TVs need to support 4K Netflix).
