A new Roku 3 with voice search & a faster Roku 2

Roku has announced upgraded versions of its popular Roku 3 and Roku 2 streaming players. The Roku 3 now offers voice search, and the new Roku 2 is now as fast as the Roku 3.

The upgraded version of the Roku 3 looks identical, but now offers voice search through a microphone in the remote control. The remote still has a private listening mode that lets you connect headphones.

Roku is also updating the Roku 2 with a faster processor inside. The company says that it is now as fast as the Roku 3 – and still considerably cheaper. The Roku 2 is now basically a Roku 3 without the voice search capabilities.

New Roku 3

Existing players will get a new feature called “Roku Feed” that “lets people follow entertainment they want to watch”. Roku explains that the feed can be used to follow “movies coming soon”, which notifies you when a new movie will be available for streaming. A “My Feed” shortcut is available from the home screen. The Roku mobile app has also been updated.

There is still no word on the first 4K-enabled Roku player.

The new Roku 3 and 2 players are available from today for $99.99 and $69.99, respectively.
