The crowd went wild when Microsoft announced that Xbox One will soon be able to play Xbox 360 games, including your existing discs. Microsoft also announced a new dashboard, a new Elite controller, and several new game titles.

Works with your existing games

Microsoft is promising that more than hundred 360 games will be compatible when the new system rolls out this autumn. The most important detail here is that you will be able to play you existing games. You just need to put in the disc, wait for some files to download, and you are ready.

- "Gamers won't have to pay to play games they already own." said Microsoft’s Phil Spencer with reference to how Sony is offering old PS3 games on PS4.

Microsoft confirmed that multiplayer and functions such as cloud saving will be available, and also confirmed support for titles such as Gears of War, Halo 3 and Perfect Dark Zero. The full list of supported games is available here.

Elite controller and new dashboard

Microsoft unveiled a new "Elite Wireless Controller" that you can customize and reconfigure. If you want to assign other functions to buttons you can, and there are even four stainless steel "paddles" on the back that you can add or remove. But it will not be cheap. The Elite controller will hit stores this October for $150 dollars. Microsoft has created a "Ford Le Mans" edition.

Microsoft also have us a preview of the next major design for the “Dashboard”. It no longer relies on the Windows 8 tile layout but still uses rectangular icons to represent games and apps. Microsoft says the new interface is faster and simpler.

But the biggest change to the interface is Cortana. Microsoft is adding its voice assistant to Xbox One and with commands such as “record the last 2 minutes and upload” you can save several button presses. Microsoft also hinted that it has bigger plans for Cortana on Xbox that will be available only in the US and UK initially.

The new software will roll out this autumn.

New Games

Microsoft and partners also announced new games, and we have included trailers for the biggest new titles below.
