Sony's 2015 TVs are now shipping

26 Jun 2015 | Rasmus Larsen |

After several delays, Sony’s new 2015 TVs are now shipping in the US and Europe. Sony will continue to offer HD TVs but the major themes for 2015 are Ultra HD and the new "Android TV" operating system.

Sony has launched new mid-range and high-end TVs. Most of them will come equipped with the “Android TV” operating system developed by Google, offering apps, streaming, music, channels, games and more. The TVs also have built-in Google Cast, which is the protocol that Chromecast relies on.

As you move up in price class Sony will add Ultra HD resolution, 3D, HEVC and VP9 decoding for 4K content, and finally HDR (high dynamic range) that improves picture quality. HDR is supported by the X93C and X94C models that also come with powerful speakers attached.
