LG has announced its first curved soundbar, following in the footsteps of Samsung. The HS8 soundbar is a 360W audio system with 4.1 channels. It can connect wirelessly to LG’s Music Flow multi-room system and Google Cast.
A curved soundbar for a curved TV
You might have noticed that LG sells curved TVs, mostly OLEDs but also a few LCDs. If you want to extend the curves to your sound system a curved soundbar is the way to go, says LG.
The HS8 can be connected to a TV for improved sound and because of the curved design the sweet spot has been expanded, according to LG. It can connect wirelessly to LG’s Music Flow multi-room system. You can already listen to music wirelessly and later LG’s TVs will receive an update that enables Music Flow.
The soundbar is also compatible with Google’s new Google Cast audio system. Think of it like Chromecast for audio. Many music streaming apps on smartphones and tablets already support Google Cast. LG further says that HS8 can be controlled with remotes from eight manufacturers.
- “As a company that brought to market stunningly looking curved TVs, it’s only natural that we also follow up with a curved audio product to match,” said Min Byung-hoon, SVP of LG’s Audio Visual division.
LG HS8 will launch in Europe next week and in the US in October for $699. It will also be exhibited at IFA 2015 in Berlin.
