LG's webOS update for 2014 TVs coming September 21

01 Sep 2015 | Rasmus Larsen |

Earlier this year, LG promised to update its webOS 1.0 based 2014 TVs with most of the new webOS 2.0 features. The update is coming on September 21, confirms LG.

2014 TVs to get webOS 2.0 features

It is not a full update to webOS 2.0 but the software package will add most of the features to 2014 TVs that LG introduced with its 2015 TVs, including My Channels, Quick Setting, Input Picker and Live Menu.

My Channels allow you to place your favorite channels on the launcher bar. Quick Setting is just a shortcut to the settings menu. The Input Picker “allows connected devices to be recognized instantly for immediate use”. The Live Menu has received some user interface updates. The update will also make webOS navigation slightly faster.

- “LG is dedicated to providing the best user experience for the life of our smart TVs,” said Lee In-kyu, senior vice president and head of the TV and Monitor Division at LG’s Home Entertainment Company.
- “A free upgrade of this scale is unprecedented in the smart TV industry and we’re proud to be setting a new standard for smart TV ownership.”

The software upgrade will be pushed out to 2014 TVs starting September 21, says LG. If you have the automatic update option enabled it will install automatically.
