TCL of China is expanding its line-up with a new curved S88 series of Ultra HD TVs. Thomson, produced by TCL, also has a new curved TV called A87. These are TCL and Thomson’s first curved TVs.
Ultra HD TV with a wide color gamut
The two new TVs from TCL and Thomson look nearly identical in terms of LCD technology. But they differ in design. TCL’s curved TV has a wood centerpiece below the screen and more powerful speakers by Harman Kardon.
TCL is selling TVs under its own name and the Thomson brand, and the company is planning to bring the new TVs to Europe very soon. A range of flat TCL and Thomson TVs were launched in Europe earlier this year.
The Ultra HD TVs offer a wide color gamut (close to DCI P3), making them capable of reproducing more saturated colors when streaming 4K HDR content from an external player or streaming services.
Few details were announced for TCL S88 but Thomson A87 will also feature a quad-core processor and 1000 CMI. It supports HEVC, making it capable of decoding 4K content without a box.
TCL S88 will be available this month in 55 and 65” sizes for 1799 and 2799 Euro, respectively. Thomson A87 will be available in October in 55, 65 and 78” sizes for 1499, 2499 and 6999 Euro, respectively.
