Netflix premieres its first movie, Beasts of No Nation

Netflix has already taken the TV industry by storm and they are hoping to do the same for movies. Beasts of No Nation is available now in select cinemas and all Netflix regions.

Beasts of No Nation is a movie about a warlord that takes a 14-year old child soldier under his wings. Reviewers are clearly excited about the movie that is eligible for Oscar awards nomination.

Theatres on the other hand have reacted strongly to Netflix’s plans to produce movies, partly because Netflix wants to premiere movies in cinemas and online on the same day. This move breaks down the “window” model that Hollywood has used for ages. As a consequence, several theatre chains have refused to show the movie. Netflix, however, says that they are not trying to compete with theatre chains but merely giving viewers a choice.
