Doctor Who, Sherlock, Top Gear & more
Today, BBC launches BBC Store, which is a new digital service that lets you buy BBC shows. You will be able to watch your purchases through the iPlayer app (“My Programmes” tab), which also lets you download them for offline use.
BBC says that “for over 30 years selected BBC programmes have been available to buy - first on VHS, then DVD and more recently on digital download platforms.” The BBC Store is available in the UK starting today but the company has yet to comment on a global launch.
- “We want BBC Store to do for digital ownership what BBC iPlayer did for catch up. BBC Store makes digital ownership really easy for audiences and means that we can begin opening up the incredible BBC television archive.” said Marcus Arthur, MD, BBC Worldwide
The catalog includes shows such as Doctor Who, Sherlock, Top Gear as well as David Attenborough’s Frozen Planet, Blue Planet and Planet Earth. There will also be exclusive content for Top Gear fans. Many shows will be available to buy the day after transmission. Prices vary depending on the content; Frozen Planet is available for Ł9.99.
BBC is offering a 25% discount on the first purchase. Learn more at bbcstore.com.
