Chinese TV makers have showcased OLED TVs on several occasions but so far none of them are available outside of China. At CES 2016, Skyworth exhibited 4K OLED TVs and Changhong showed off impressive OLED TVs with Dolby Vision.
Changhong’s Dolby Vision OLED TVs
LG made headlines at CES with its new OLED TVs that are the first to support Dolby Vision. However, Chinese Changhong also claimed support for Dolby Vision on its new OLED TVs.
Changhong does not produce OLED panels so these panels are obviously made by LG.Display but it is still fascinating to see how quickly the Chinese players are becoming tier 1 manufacturers in the TV market.
The Dolby Vision-enabled OLED TVs were part of a Q2AH model range of curved TVs. Changhong said that they will start selling 55 and 65” OLED TVs with 4K, HDR, and Dolby Vision support in China later this year. The company will also offer HDR OLED TVs without Dolby Vision and “regular” 4K OLED TVs.
Skyworth’s 4K OLED TVs
Skyworth has been showcasing OLED TVs in Europe and the US on several occasions but so far they are only selling the OLED TVs in China.
At CES 2016, Skyworth once again showcased 4K OLED TVs at its booth. The 65” TVs had a transparent soundbar mounted under the TV. It is worth noting that these were in fact flat, not curved, OLED TVs.
No launch details were announced by either manufacturer and we suspect that both companies simply hoped to gain some brand recognition in the US. Still, it is interesting to observe that Chinese TV manufacturers are at the forefront of TV hardware innovation ahead of popular brands such as Samsung and Sony.
