Starz has launched a new stand-alone streaming service for $9 per month. Everyone in the US with an internet connection can subscribe, no cable subscription required. The Starz app is available on Apple TV, Chromecast, and mobile devices.
Starz streaming service
The new Starz streaming service is a stand-alone service, and with the launch Starz thereby moves on from its previous fragmented Starz Play, Encore Play and MoviePlex services.
For $9 per month you will get access to TV series such as “Outlander”, “Black Sails”, “Power”, and the upcoming “American Gods” as well as movies such as “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and soon “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, “Inside Out” and “Tomorrowland”. The company says that the library consists of more than 2400 selections each month. The second season of Outlander will premiere on the streaming service on April 7, two days before the premiere on the TV channel.
- “Starz has entered the market today with an enormous value proposition for consumers. Our programing will now be more widely available to the 20 million broadband only homes of cord nevers, cord cutters and cord shavers, including Millennials and other underserved consumers who need other viable subscription service options,” said Starz CEO Chris Albrecht.
The Starz app is available now on Apple TV (tvOS only), Chromecast, Airplay, iPhone, iPad, Android mobile devices, and via the browser on PC/Mac. There is no app for devices such as Amazon Fire TV, Roku or Android TV yet. Up to four viewers can watch simultaneously.
HD quality is available and Starz recommends at least 6 Mbps for the best experience. Subtitles are also supported. Furthermore, you can download most content to your mobile device for offline viewing.
