New Samsung TVs will have built-in Steam Link for PC games

At Steam Dev Days it was announced that future Samsung TVs will come equipped with built-in Steam Link, making it possible to stream PC games to your Samsung TV over the home network.

Steam Link in Samsung TVs

Steam Link allows you to stream games from a PC with the Steam software installed over the home network to a TV. You control games with the $50 Steam controller.

- “Steam Link will be integrated into the new Samsung TVs”, it was announced at the Steam Dev Days and reported by Steam Spy.

While it is not entirely clear if Valve refers to Samsung’s 2017 TVs, it is very unlikely that the company can comment on Samsung’s 2018 line-up. Our guess is that Steam Link will be available in Samsung’s high-end 2017 models that will be announced at CES 2017 in January.

Of course you still need a powerful PC to render the games and a fast and stable WiFi or Ethernet connection at home. Steam is not yet offering a cloud-based game streaming service like Sony’s PlayStation Now or Nvidia’s Geforce Now. The former is available as an app in Samsung’s Smart TVs.

Steam Link is also available as a separate box for $49. It was launched in November 2015. It supports games at up to 1080p resolution.
