Hulu has started supporting 4K Ultra HD quality via streaming on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One S. It will start by offering 4 original TV series and 20 James Bond movies.

Hulu in 4K quality

Hulu’s 4K content is available to stream now and although the catalog is still quite small it is always good to see more services jump on the bandwagon.

- “We want to make sure viewers can watch their favorite shows and movies in the best possible quality. 4K Ultra HD gives content creators a more immersive canvas for their stories” said Ben Smith, Head of Experience, Hulu.

Hulu’s three originals ‘11.22.63’, ‘The Path’, and ‘Chance’ are available now. The new ’Shut Eye’ is coming on December 7. In addition to originals, Hulu also offers 20 James Bond movies, including Spectre, in 4k.

Hulu 4K

The joint venture between Disney, 21st Century Fox, Comcast and Time Warner is adding 4K video support in an effort to stay competitive with Netflix and Amazon, both of which added 4K support a few years ago and have moved to HDR (High Dynamic Range) in 2016. Hulu is not yet offering HDR.

To enjoy 4K streaming from Hulu you need the PlayStation 4 Pro or Xbox One S. More devices will be supported in 2017, Hulu says. Look for the 4K logo: Hulu 4K

- “We’ll continue to add more 4K content over the next year,” Ben added.

Hulu recommends a minimum internet connection of 13 Mb/s to stream in 4K quality. That should give us a hint about the bitrate, too, even though the company has yet to comment on technical details.
