Panasonic adds 3 affordable UHD Blu-ray players to its line-up

Not 1 but 3 new UHD Blu-ray players have been announced by Panasonic at CES 2017. The players will be named UB300, UB310 and UB400.

More UHD Blu-ray players

With the launch of the three new UHD Blu-ray players, Panasonic has the biggest line-up of UHD Blu-ray players on the market. Five in total if you include UB900 that was launched in spring 2016 and UB700 that was launched in autumn 2016.

Panasonic UB400 UHD Blu-ray

All of the players comply strictly to the UHD Blu-ray standard, meaning that you will get the exact same picture quality no matter which you pick. Panasonic backs the open HDR10 format but not the more premium Dolby Vision format.

The difference is that UB400 has two HDMI outputs; one for video and one for audio. There are also some design differences. All three players support Netflix and Amazon in 4K quality.

Panasonic adds that a new function can improve shadow detail definition in very bright living room environments. You have to manually activate it.

- ”Furthermore, it faithfully reproduces dark and bright areas regardless of the viewing environment. The images in dark scenes are difficult to see in bright room conditions. In this situation, the user can activate the function to forcibly raise the brightness of low-brightness areas. Even when switched to a bright scene, the image
is analysed and optimised,”
says Panasonic.

This feature will also be available on UB700 and UB900 through a firmware upgrade later this year.

The three new players will launch later in 2017.

Panasonic did not announce exact pricing details so all we know right now is that the three new players will all be cheaper than the UB700, which sells for a recommended retail price of 450 Euro.
