One of the industry’s most acclaimed directors has been working to remaster his 7 latest movies. The Christopher Nolan Collection will be released on UHD Blu-ray on December 19 - and one week earlier online.
The Nolan collection in 4K HDR
The collection includes The Prestige, Batman Begins, The Dark Knights, The Dark Knight Returns, Inception, Interstellar, and Dunkirk.
- ”Introducing the films of Christopher Nolan in 4K Ultra HD. Remastered by the director in a stunning new format. High Dynamic Range for brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors,” the announcement read.
Christopher Nolan’s work hardly requires an introduction; the UHD Blu-ray release has been eagerly awaited. The director has been involved in the process to remaster the full collection to make sure that everything looks as good as possible in 4K resolution and HDR (High Dynamic Range).
From film to digital
Nolan is part of a small group of Hollywood directors that continues to shoot on 35mm or 70mm IMAX film, depending on movie and scene. With 4K and HDR you can experience the movies in the highest possible quality at home. Only select few theatres screen movies in HDR.
- “4K Ultra HD with HDR is an incredibly exciting new home video format that allows a much closer recreation of viewing the original film print,” said Nolan in the press release. “The deeper color palette comes closer to matching the analogue colors of film and we’ve restored the original theatrical mixes for this release. If you can’t rewatch these films in the theater, this is the best experience you can have in your own home.”
It is not clear if the video will be presented in HDR10 or Dolby Vision format. Audio is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio. No object based audio format is included on the discs.
The 7 titles will be available online on December 12 but it has not yet been confirmed if they will be offered in 4K HDR. The same 7 titles will be available one week later on December 19 on UHD Blu-ray – separately and as a box set.
