Samsung unveils curved CJ791 monitor with Thunderbolt 3

Samsung says that it the first curved monitor to feature Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. The 34-inch CJ791 is based on an LCD panel with 3440x1440 pixel resolution.

The monitor has a 21:9 aspect ratio with 3440x1440 resolution and has been designed for entertainment and business audiences, according the the Korean company.

Besides the curved form factor, the headlining feature is the inclusion of Thunderbolt 3 connectivity.

We are thrilled to demonstrate the full capabilities of our innovative new display to CES 2018 attendees,” said Seog-gi Kim, EVP of Visual Display at Samsung

A Thunderbolt 3 port makes it easy to connect the monitor to devices such as Apple Macbooks and PCs. The interface can provide up to 85 Watts of power to a laptop.

CJ791 will be available in a 34-inch size and will be promoted as a ”QLED” monitor. It uses a conventional LCD panel with edge LED backlighting. Samsung says that it can reproduce 125% of the sRGB color spectrum. In addtion, it features a Game Mode with ”a dynamic gamma setting that intuitively adjusts color and contrast of each individual scene to produce a true-to-life environment”.

The CJ791 will be showcased for the first time at CES 2018. No launch schedule or pricing details were announced.
