Airplay 2 for B&O speakers
Bang & Olufsen’s BeoVision Eclipse TV will, together with 9 speakers, receive an update to enable Airplay 2. It will enable the products to enter into a multiroom setup via Airplay 2 that can be controlled from iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
Music can already be controlled via Siri if you subscribe to Apple Music.
- “AirPlay 2 from Apple offers new and intelligent ways of enjoying music and other content in a way that fits naturally into people’s way of living. It is an aspiration that aligns particularly well with our ambition of moving the technology race back to where it makes sense; to where it’s all about simply enjoying great sound in the most flexible and intuitive way,” said John Mollanger, CEO for B&O PLAY.
The Airplay protocol also enables you to stream audio wirelessly from Apple TV to speakers in your living room. Apple has yet to specify the full capabilities of Airplay 2. It currently support stereo TV sound.
Bang & Olufsen added that it is planning to introduce Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa in select products later this year. The company will also introduce as “smart speaker”.
Bang & Olufsen did not comment on exact timing as Apple has yet to release the protocol. Apple is expected to roll out Airplay 2 with the HomePod.
